Book Summary:

Before Darwin, before Audubon, there was Maria Sibylla Merian. An artist turned naturalist known for her botanical illustrations, Merian was born just sixteen years after Galileo proclaimed that the earth orbited the sun. But at the age of fifty, she sailed from Europe to the New World on a solo scientific expedition to study insect metamorphosis—an unheard-of journey for any naturalist at that time, much less a woman. When she returned, she produced a book that secured her reputation, only to have it savaged in the nineteenth century by scientists who disdained the work of “amateurs.” Exquisitely written and illustrated, Chrysalis takes us from golden-age Amsterdam to the Surinam tropics to modern laboratories where Merian’s insights fuel a new branch of biology. Kim Todd brings to life a seventeenth-century woman whose boldness and vision would still be exceptional today.

Book Summary:

Haarlem, Holland, seventeenth-century: The city’s chief magistrate commissions a family portrait from Dutch master painter Johannes Miereveld. But when the artist sees the magistrate’s daughter, Amalia, an illicit love affair begins. Miereveld creates a captivating masterpiece, The Chrysalis–a stunning portrait of the Virgin Mary, full of Catholic symbols, that outrages his Protestant patron and signals the death of his career. New York, present day: Mara Coyne is one high-profile case away from making partner at her powerful Manhattan law firm, and now the client that is sure to seal the deal has fallen into her lap. The prestigious Beazley’s auction house is about to sell a lost masterwork, The Chrysalis, in an auction that is destined to become legendary. Standing in the way, however, is the shocking accusation that the painting belongs not to Beazley’s client but to Hilda Baum, the daughter of a Dutch collector who lost his paintings–and his life–to the Nazis. The case brings an unexpected surprise when Mara discovers that Beazley’s in-house attorney is Michael Roarke, a man for whom she once had an intense attraction. But the same skills that make her a brilliant litigator also make Mara suspicious, and she begins to believe that Hilda’s tragic family story might be more than just heartbreaking–it might be true. And the man she’s come to love might not be who she thought he was at all. Spanning centuries and continents, The Chrysalis is a brilliant, intelligent, fast-paced thriller that melds art and history into a provocative work of fiction. From the underground Catholicism in seventeenth-century Holland to the unspeakable crimes of the Nazis and the repercussions that reverberate to this day throughout the art world, Heather Terrell has created a fascinating story that will entrance readers to the very last page.

Book Summary:

This book does not claim absolute truths, but it speaks for those who can no longer speak for themselves by the histories they witnessed, wrote about, and which defined their ancestors and descendants, including the most powerful woman that ever lived – Countess Elizabeth Bathory. She tried to change the world; she paradoxically succeeded and failed. But what drove her? What did she know, we do not? What is her history? To begin to understand all this, one must travel back in time to when it began, when truth first became obscured, and when European society – Western culture – went horribly wrong. It is why her world was the way it was. Today, historiological “truths” of European Medieval Dark Ages, at best, exist as dim flashes of information in ancient manuscripts. A very interconnected European medieval history has much more, but inconvenient historiological information to informs us of events, names, places, and dates, but like a giant, complicated jigsaw puzzle. Unfortunately, many pieces are still missing, none more so than that of Carpathia. Consequently, an incomplete, theoretical picture of historical reality remains. There’s a reason for it. Throughout history, Europeans struggled for Humility, Humanity and Liberty, but only Carpathian Ungars maintained and struggled to keep it for more than a millennium – from about 600 to 1711. Their history has gone missing, supplanted by myths. Their greatest leaders are caricatures of Gothic horror literature, and their greatest traitors are their heroes. Their monuments are everywhere. Carpathia’s history does not exist in Western consciousness. What is it about Carpathia we are not supposed to know? Its missing medieval jigsaw puzzle pieces, when liberated from obscure archives, then reassembled, and inserted into the macro context of centuries, however, allows us to understand why. This book is a sequel to Chrysalis I: Metamorphosis of Odium. The time period covered is roughly from the early eleventh to late fourteenth centuries. The book explores the complexity of the Late Medieval period from a Carpathian, Slavic-Turkic perspective. An extremist, elitist European world sunk deeper into human depravity – of European and Middle Eastern genocides and of material greed. These depravities gave the rise to Hohenstaufen, Arpad, Bathory, and Osman dynasties. Together, they kindled a period of philosophical awakening - a fundamental reformation of the feudal order. Thanks to them, the supreme Vatican lost control over its Holy Roman Empire for the first time. Such heresies had responses too – the Apostolic Inquisition, Avignon Papacy, Mongol Invasions of Europe and the Middle East, and the extermination of non-compliant ruling European dynasties namely Hohenstaufen and Arpad. Only the Bathorys survived, but they had to endure a debilitating war to do so. One dynasty – Habsburg – sought to profit from the chaos. Indeed they did. Their arrival marks the end of the first great pendulum swing of European cultural metamorphosis. Soon, it would be Elizabeth Bathory’s duty to change the world. This is a story of us.

Nara questions her own sanity when she discovers that she is the reincarnation of the Architect Creator. Regardless if this adventure is fantasy or fact she must see it through. With the help of the Galactican crew of the Battleship Ignis, her first task is to discover her true abilities known as wisdom's. Abilities she will need if she is to restore balance and fight an evil that is spreading across the universes like a disease. While this is the first book of the Echoes in Time Series it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone story.

The island of Malta and the unnamed detective returns, still haunted by the death of his friend, the havoc caused by the sinister drug smuggler, his own fall from grace and the slow rebuilding and reform of his life. Into that life falls a man to whom time has also not been kind, his existence in turmoil when he makes a connection with the past that someone would rather he had forgotten. Accused of murder, the man’s only hope is the detective in a case that has roots in the USA, England and France, and for which the citizens of Malta could pay the ultimate price.

Book Summary:

This book is a collection of poetry I have been writing over the years. I don’t have much confidence in it to call it a good piece of literature, but I can call it good art because it has come right out of my heart and there hasn’t been much peddling around it, as I am not a writer or a poet. There were moments of desolation which I have tried to pen and some silly stories that kept popping in my mind. It is mostly a rant on my life and the times. It is ordinary because I am ordinary. Thankfully nothing has happened to me, which is catastrophic or has not happened to the women of this country. I can’t boast of deep experiences because it’s largely been a shallow life. I grew up like any normal kid, got married, had kids, reached midlife and wondered, what have I done with my one life to be proud of? What have I to leave behind when I die? Absolutely nothing! That is when I tried doing a lot of things all at once and failed completely because I neither had the skill nor the patience to learn. Then I finally decided to publish my poetry, however dull or incompetent it may be. Whatever this book is made up of, it is my ticket to freedom. Having contributed something to this world, I can go back to my chores and not give much thought to the world and the beings in it who are in need of me and all the hands they can manage to make it a better place.

Book Summary:

This is a true story of how Anna discovered that she had the ability to heal physical and mental ailments amongst her family and friends. She then became aware that she had lived before and that many people involved in her past lives were around her again in this life. She developed the ability to interpret her own past and present life situation and then found that she could do the same for others. This book includes remarkable stories of deep healing, many of which have been truly life-changing. Having met Anna on a spiritual holiday I experienced first hand her ability to channel healing energies, and as we move from acquaintances to friends I stand in awe of her strong link with the source or universal energy or God. It pleased me greatly to be asked to read her book in its infancy and to watch it grow into fruition. I know for certain that it will be of great interest to healers and those searching into the concept of reincarnation. Maureen McCloud (Reiki Master) A remarkable story of Annas growth as a healer and medium and her discovery that major events which occurred in past lives can have a profound effect on our current lives. Anna uncovered events that happened in my past lives, knowledge of which is helping me to heal and transform this life. Her continuing insights are enabling me to find real purpose for my life and to live at ease with myself at last. Sheena Cox - A grateful client
